Vibration Baits (The Lover)
- A relatively new style of lure. It fits somewhere between a spinnerbait, a crankbait and a jig!
- The name Lover!
- Extremely snag free
- Tremendous amount of wobble and vibration
- Great Imitator of forage
When and Where to Throw The Lover
- Like a jig and spinnerbait, its one of the most versatile lures you can throw in different conditions
- All Seasons – winter (cold water), spring, summer (hot water), and fall!
- All Water Clarity’s – great in clear, stained, or muddy (dirty).
- All Types Of Cover – wood, rock, grass, anything!
- Imitates All Forage – bait, panfish species, crustations and crawfish
Techniques For Fishing The Lover!
- Steady Retrieve – stained water and active bass
- Burn – Great for clearer water and schooling bass. This is where I love to use the treble hook version!
- Slow Roll – cold water and dirty water
- Drag and Pull – great for cold water and deep water (ledges).
- Feather – keeps the bait in the strike zone longer
Changing Direction
- No matter what technique you choose, always make the Lover change direction. You can do this by:
- Hitting/deflecting off of cover
- Using the Rod and Reel
- Using Your Body
Picking Lover Trailers
- I like to select my Lover trailers based on two three factors:
- My Favorite Types Include:
- Natural Action – Chunks and Flukes
- Moderate Action – Devils Spear, Swim Baits and Craws
- Heavy Action – both single and double tail grubs
Equipment
- Rod – I use the exact same criteria as my spinnerbait rods. 6’6” – 7’4” medium action rods with the 7’ being my favorite! Slight delay (60/40)!
- Reel – Again the same criteria as a spinnerbait. Choose the reel based on the technique. 6.4:1 to 7.9:1 with the 7.0 being my favorite.
- Line – Once again same criteria as line for a spinnerbait. 75% of the time I’m using flora (12-20) and 25% of the time braid or mono (40-50 lb. braid and 14-20 lb. mono).

Spinnerbaits (wire baits)
- A very old lure. Gained popularity in the 80’s
- Was called an idiot bait. Cast out and reel in!
- Jimmy Houston, Roland Martin, Hank Parker
- Great lure for a lot of reasons:
- Weedless/snagless
- Flash
- Vibration
- Perfect Imitator Of Bait
Picking A Spinnerbait (Blades)
- Things to consider
- Water clarity – vibration or flash? The general rule is: the clearer the water the more you want flash; the dirtier the water the more you want vibration. Tandem configuration is the most versitile
- Water tempatures – cold, mid, hot. The general rule is the colder the water the more you want vibration and the warmer the water the more you want flash. Tandem configuration is the most versitile.
- Type of cover – little or no cover and grass I like willows better. Hard cover like wood, trees, brush I generally like Indiana Better
- Forage – match the hatch. Match blade size, shape and color to forage.
- Water depth – mainly I’m thinking about weight of the lure.
Ike’s Custom Colors
- Pummel Fish – Low light conditions or at night
- Boogolu Dace – my best all around bait fish imitator
- Mud Vein – dirty, muddy water color
- Neon Charmer – shock color, (perch or panfish), and also good for dirtier water.
- Purple Sinsay – Bait Imitator (purple sheen) cloudy days
Spinnerbait Techniques
- Steady – great for active fish and stained water
- Burn – Great for clear water
- Slow Roll – great for cold or dirty water
- Jerk – great when the bass are inactive (REACTION)
- Feather – keep the bait in the strike zone longer and looks like the real movements of forage.
Changing Direction
- No matter what technique you choose, always try and make your spinnerbait change direction. You can do this by:
- Hitting/deflecting off of cover
- Using the Rod and Reel
- Using Your Body
Spinnerbait Equipment
- Add On – trailer hook and or soft plastic trailers
- Rod – 6’6” to 7’4”. But the 7’ M is my favorite (70/30). Slight DELAY needed!
- Reel – Ratio depends on the technique. 6.4:1 to 7.9:1, but 7.0 is my favorite.
- Line – 75% of the time straight flora (12-20 with 15 being my favorite). 25% of the time braid or mono (40 or 50 pound braid or 14-20 mono).

Rifaunazione di Lucci nel Veneto
Sabato 16 maggio in Veneto si è compiuto l’atto finale di un progetto molto ambizioso: una rifaunazione massiva nelle acque del Veneto con esemplari di luccio.
Questa specie, un tempo presente in grandi quantità nelle nostre acque, negli ultimi due decenni si è ridotta drasticamente. Tramite un finanziamento ottenuto dallo Spinning Club Italia da parte della Regione Veneto, sono stati immessi 45.000 avannotti di esox flaviae nelle acque di 4 province. Per portare a termine questo progetto lo Spinning Club Italia si è avvalso della collaborazione di importanti club presenti nel territorio come il BEBA e il Lanciatori Bassa Trevisana. La sinergia tra queste associazioni, radicate nel territorio, ha permesso di realizzare bellissimi progetti nella Regione Veneto. Questa esperienza può essere d’esempio per tutti quelli che si avvicinano al mondo della pesca e alla realtà dell’ associazionismo; è un modo per essere attivi e trasformare le belle idee e le buone intenzioni in realtà.
Un importante contributo è pervenuto dalla Pro Tackles srl, titolare del marchio Molix, che ha dimostrato tangibilmente una grande sensibilità verso le iniziative dalle nostre associazioni. Pro Tackles srl, infatti, supporta già da tre anni lo Spinning Club Italia. Il circolo Lanciatori Bassa Trevisana, con il quale Pro Tackles ha sviluppato la linea Pike Series, da quest’anno riceverà dei contributi derivati dalla commercializzazione di questa linea. Quest’ associazione è da tempo impegnata nella salvaguardia del luccio nel nostro territorio.
Quella di sabato è stata una giornata molto dura e faticosa, durante la quale tanti ragazzi si sono sacrificati per dare un futuro nelle nostre acque, a questo predatore e alla tecnica del Pike Fishing, che raccoglie sempre più appassionati. I pescatori devono rispettare il luccio, un pesce che ed è in grado di regalarci grandi emozioni, come quella che personalmente ho avuto sabato al termine della semina.
Dopo il lavoro e lo sforzo arriva la ricompensa …
Prima di attraccare la barca, si fanno i soliti “due lanci”.
Ci sono degli alberi in acqua e la forte brezza della sera mi suggerisce di utilizzare il mio spinner preferito: Molix Venator da 1 Oz, con Ra shad da 4.5 per trailer e un buon trailer hook.
Dopo alcuni tentativi a vuoto del mio socio di barca, con il classico shad, la mia Molix Skirmjan da 3oz della Pike Series spara lo spinner a ridosso dei rami sommersi. Un attimo di affondamento, una leggera trazione e la classica timida tocca. Mantengo il recupero lento e sotto barca…sbam!! Mi accorgo che però il missile è attaccato a fil di becco, proprio con il trailer hook. Non forzo e assecondo le sue fughe. Cuore in gola, e poi finalmente il pesce entra nello specchio del guadino. Guardo la sua testa enorme. E’ splendido ed in splendida forma. Lo slamo in un nano secondo e rapidamente viene misurato, immortalato e restituito al suo fiume. Un bel 110cm, che ha voluto ripagarmi di tutte le fatiche dei giorni scorsi, profuse per seguire il progetto di ripopolamento e delle ore passate in barca, tra i canneti, a seminare avannotti.
Ciao mostro, mi hai fatto davvero un grande regalo!
